Spinosaurus


Name: “Thorn Lizard ”
Type: Powerful meat-eating dinosaur
Lived When: Early Cretaceous (144 to 99 million years ago)
Weight: Up to 4 1/2 tons
Length: Up to 49 feet
Diet: Other dinosaurs, dead or alive; dinosaur eggs as well (probably)
Habitat: Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Niger (these areas were floodplains covered with lush forests when Spino lived there!)
Interesting Facts: Spinosaurus is named for the spines that stick out from its backbone. These are covered with a “sail” of skin.

Spinosaurus had crocodile-like jaws with rows of needle-sharp teeth. These long jaws were great for digging into dead dino bodies! Cool!
