Deinonychus

Name: “Terrible Hand “
Type: Meat eater, killer/predator
Lived When: Early Cretaceous period, 115 million years ago
Weight: 160 pounds
Height: 3 feet tall
Length: 11 feet long
Weapons: Deinonychus had large hands with three claws on each. The first claw was shortest and the second was longest. Each back foot had a sickle-shaped claw on the second “toe” which was probably used during a kill
Diet: Meat
Habitat: Montana, Wyoming, Oklahoma and possibly Maryland
Interesting Facts: One set of Deinonychus fossil and bones found in 1969 were found close to its egg, which scientists figure means it was nesting on the egg. This meant dinosaurs might actually be warm-blooded, like birds. Before this, most scientists thought dinosaurs were cold-blooded, like reptiles.
